Walk talk
Since 1996, Marianne has been a strong advocate of the sport of
racewalking. When neck surgery ended her running career, she looked
for other ways to stay fit. She discovered that racewalking offered
a terrific alternative - it's an activity that's much lower-impact
than running, and provides a full-body, highly aerobic workout.
In October of 2003, Marianne competed in her sixth marathon as
a racewalker. In 2000, she placed second in the racewalking division
of the Lake Tahoe Half-Marathon. Marianne also competes year-round
in local races such as the Santa Cruz Half-Marathon, the 21-Mile
Power Walk in Big Sur, and the Wharf-to-Wharf race in Santa Cruz.
Here's a recent article
(and the picture that ran with it) about Marianne and her passion
from the 6/03/03 issue of the San Jose Mercury News.
